I love the Jewelery Program where I have been recruited. I really want to work hard and perform to my best abilities. I never thought that staying in a shelter home I could ever get such an opportunity. It’s like a dream for me. There are many girls and boys who want to work here, but having got the chance, I want to put my best effort. To perform better, I have to be more sincere and serious about this work.

Ever since she was born, she has been my best friend, and as she gets older, our relationship just keeps getting better. Even though she's half my age, I look up to her because of her amazing strength, talent, intelligence, and sense of humor.

Susan

Sister Name:
Susan
Sister Type:
Sister

My sister Susan makes a point to keep me up to date on all the family news. She is a great mother and grandmother. She is always concerned about others and is a lot of fun to be around.

Soul Sista

Sister Name:
Karen
Sister Type:
Soul Sister

Sometimes, even though we live far away, I'll send her a message and ask her to come over. I imagine we have wine in the afternoon or a nap in the sun or watch a movie in our pajamas. She is the first friend I ever loved. Sometimes when we talk about our babies or new recipes or the housing market, I forget how long I've known her. I forget that we would walk to the convenience store in our flip flops and tank tops to buy Clearly Canadians and Red Hot Dollars with her Dad's money. We thought we were very cool and grown up, even though we were just kids.

My mother, my best friend, and now my angel

Sister Name:
Millie Margaret Mary McGregor
Sister Type:
Mother

I've not loved anyone in this world more than my mother.  For as long as I can remember, she (and our family) worked to help those in need.  Some of her volunteer work includes: Mentor to an at risk child, writing checks to pay for heating bills for families who couldn't afford it, raising money to help children who were sexually abused, bringing large print books to individuals who could not leave the nursing home, folding and sorting clothes for the migrant workers...to name just a few.

One word can make a difference

Sister Name:
Dody
Sister Type:
Grandmother

After a very difficult and painful family event that was in nature abusive, as I lay awake in my bed after the horrible event, my dear grandmother with one act and one phrase gave me the will to go on.  I was visiting my grandparents and the event happened at their house.  Family members who had been drinking got out of control and as my grandmother stood by in tears unable to do anything the night became nightmarish.  After everyone had gone to bed I lay awake, worried, frightened, bewildered, and hurting.

My friend's are my sisters

Sister Type:
Soul Sister

I grew up with a brother.  Always wanted a sister but alas... My friends became my sisters.  They still are.  I treasure all the amazing women in my life as my soul sisters.  I am all the richer for it.  I was graced with an amazing mother who is now left this earth and I miss her terribly.  I take solace in my wonderful women friends, many of whom belong to the same club as I, an unwanted membership in the motherless daughter's club.  We hold each other up, we support one another and have become family.

I still look for her

Sister Name:
Karen Kisslinger
Sister Type:
Soul Mother

Karen and I were perfect partners. She was vision, I was practicality. She pushed me to be better, I grounded her.  She asked me if the community center I run would start a Farmer's Market, and it took me about 10 seconds to say "yes, if we run it together." She was an acupuncturist, teacher of meditation and yoga, healthy eating and farming mentor, breastfeeding teacher, and much more. When I was suffering with terrible morning sickness during my second pregnancy and went to her for acupuncture, she asked me if I was eating well. "Sure!

A lifetime friend

Sister Name:
Sanjni
Sister Type:
Soul Sister

Sanjini and I have been friends since our teen days.  Although most of the time with have lived thousands of miles apart.  Sanjini and I frequently connect and walk through each others lives via the phone, facebook, email, or texting.  Other than family, Sanjini is the longest friend I have ever had.  I appreciate that even though I moved away at 15, even as midlife adults, we are still close.  We will be soul sisters forever!

My first post - to my mother

Sister Name:
Judy
Sister Type:
Mother

I am so blessed to have so many amazing, inspiring, and beautiful women in my life and The My Sister Project is the perfect platform to be able to openly appreciate and pay tribute to some of the most amazing women I know! Because I have so many women who have impacted my life, I would love to dedicate a post to each one in chronological order over the course of the next couple of weeks, starting with the woman who gave me life, my mother, Judy.

My mother was born in Seoul, Korea and when she was a young girl, her and her family moved to Seattle, Washington.

inspiration

Sister Name:
Ginny
Sister Type:
Sister

i have so many soul sisters, mothers, women in my life who have lifted me up, shielded me, loved me, pulled me along... I could write so much here...but I wanted to write about my own sister, Ginny, who spends her life helping other people and who inspires me so much.  Ginny works with mentally and emotionally ill people; she has done so her whole adult life.  The first time I ever visited her in her workplace, I felt really truly afraid.

A Sister for the best and worst of times

Sister Name:
Brookie Maxwell
Sister Type:
Soul Sister

My sister Brookie has carried me through some of the darkest times of my life, and shared many of the best.  In fact, this whole My sister campaign was her idea.

She says that when I am around, she just feels more confident, like she can do anything.
