The Artisans

destiny stitchersThe women of Destiny Productions have a variety of skills, including cutting and stitching, block printing, jewelry production, and batik dyeing. They received training in these skills from various NGOs, either at shelter homes, where they receive rehabilitation services, or at community centers, which act as anti-trafficking units in high-risk areas.

Some of the women, including those pictured here, live in impoverished areas that are highly susceptible to trafficking and exploitation. But through their work, they earn respect within their community and are an inspiration to other women and families. Although some of the women still live at the shelter homes, they are saving money each month so that they can move out into their own apartments.

For most of the women, this is their first actual job and there are certain work habits that they need to learn. But they have been impressive in terms of their punctuality, willingness to learn new skills, and adaptability in this new environment.
